Letter From the Art Teacher

About the Art Program

Welcome to Crabapple Lane Elementary!   My name is Dana Siewert and I will be your child’s art teacher
this year.   I am very passionate about the art program at Crabapple Lane Elementary and its artists.

Every student at Crabapple Lane Elementary receives art once a week.   During this time period
many aspects of art are covered.   Throughout the year, students experience several types of media that
include clay, paint, pastels, and markers to name a few.   Since we will be exploring some media that may get a bit messy, you may want to consider sending an art smock (old, button-down shirt) to help protect their clothes.   This is optional.

With each media, students learn new skills and techniques that enable them to build on skills
they have learned in previous years.   While learning new and exciting techniques, the students also
encounter information about artists, different styles of art and even art from other cultures.   Not only
does your child learn to create and respect art, but also how to analyze and discuss art.   The art program is designed to allow the students to get as many experiences with art as possible while building important creative and critical thinking skills.   Lessons are planned according to the Georgia Performance Standards to ensure your child gets the most out of his/her art experience.

I am able to provide these many opportunities to our students due to your support of our PTO and the Fine Arts.  We will once again participate in Art to Remember and have a Students’ Art Exhibit.  Please look for more information to come on these events.

I look forward to working with our Crabapple Lane artists this year!

Thank you in advance for your support,
Dana H. Siewert
